The IDCOL Kalinga Iron Works Ltd., is a unit of the Industrial Development Corporation
of Orissa Ltd., Govt. of Orissa, undertaking incorporated under the company's act,
1956. IDCOL took over KIW from Kalinga industries on 01-04-1963 and made it autonomous
on 01-04-2002 renaming it as IDCOL Kalinga Iron Works Ltd. It is situated in the
midst of richest iron ore and manganese ore deposits of the country in Keonjhar
district (Orissa), within the municipal area of Barbil town on the bank of river
KARO at an altitude of 1730 feet with temperate climate. |

Barbil town is linked by railways with a branch line directly from Rajkharasuan
which is situated on the Howrarh–Bombay main line. The nearer air routs by Vayudoot
are to Rourkela in the west and Jamshedpur in the east at a distance of 150 KM each.
It is a distance of 80 KM from the district headquarters, Keonjhar town otherwise
connected by road with state Highway of orissa & Bihar and can be reached by
road from the following railheads. |
PID can produce 1,40,000 MT of foundry grade pig Iron in its 4 low shaft Blast furnaces
by using Iron Ore, Metallurgical coke, manganese ore and flux materials (Limestone
& dolomite). The plant has a captive power plant with 12 MW generation capacity
PID is famous for its high quality pig iron. |

SPD was commissioned in March 1982; it has an installed capacity of 31,200 MT/annum.
There are five spinning machines capable of producing C.I. pipes of size 80 to 450mm
nominal diameter, confirming to IS 1536 of 1989. The division obtains molten metal
from PID and converts the same into pipes after necessary composition using induction
furnaces. |
